Popish Plot

The Popish Plot was a fabricated 1678 accusation that English Catholics planned to assassinate Charles II. It sparked anti-Catholic panic, parliamentary crisis, and wrongful executions.

Titus Oates: An English perjurer whose claims of a Catholic plot helped ignite the crisis of 1678. His testimony supplied the plot’s central allegations and drove prosecutions.
