Portuguese Ceylon

Portuguese Ceylon was Portugal’s colonial presence on parts of Sri Lanka’s coast from the early 16th century until Dutch forces conquered its holdings in the 17th century.

Fortifications of Portuguese Ceylon: A network of Portuguese coastal strongholds built to defend ports and control trade in Sri Lanka. Forts at Colombo and elsewhere anchored Portuguese military and administrative control.
