Post-Impressionism

A late 19th-century art movement that extended Impressionism while emphasizing personal expression, structural form, and symbolic or emotional meaning.

Paul Cézanne: A French painter who sought lasting structure beneath the shifting appearances of nature. His planes and repeated views made pictorial construction central to one Post-Impressionist path.
The Starry Night: Vincent van Gogh’s 1889 painting of a night sky swirling above a village. Its turbulent forms and heightened color embody emotional transformation of landscape.
Cloisonnism: A painting style using flat color areas bounded by dark outlines. Gauguin and Émile Bernard used its clear contours to flatten and simplify forms.

Paul Gauguin: A French painter who used flattened forms and symbolic color to create evocative scenes. His work made symbolism and deliberate departures from naturalism central to the movement.
