Post-up

A basketball offensive tactic in which a player establishes position near the basket to receive the ball and create a scoring opportunity.

Low post: An area near the basket along either side of the lane, where offensive players often establish post position. A post-up most often begins with the player sealing a defender in this area.
Back-to-the-basket offense: An offensive style in which a player receives the ball with their back toward the basket and attacks from close range. Post-ups are a principal way to initiate this style of play.
Face-up offense: An attacking style in which a player squares up to the basket and uses a drive or jump shot. Unlike a conventional post-up, it begins with the player facing the defender and basket.
Basketball analytics: The use of statistical analysis and data to evaluate basketball performance and strategy. Possession-level analysis lets teams compare post-ups with other ways to score.
Post entry pass: A pass from a perimeter player to a teammate positioned near the basket. The entry pass delivers the ball to the player who has established post position.
