Pragmatic Sanction of 1713

A decree issued by Emperor Charles VI that established the indivisibility of the Habsburg lands and permitted their inheritance by his female descendants.

Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor: A Habsburg ruler who governed the Holy Roman Empire and hereditary Austrian lands from 1711 to 1740. As his only surviving sons died young, Charles sought to secure his daughters’ succession.
