Knowra Pressure drop Pressure drop Pressure drop is the decrease in fluid pressure between two points as fluid flows through a resistance. In air filtration, it measures the pressure lost as air passes through a filter.
Darcy–Weisbach equation : An equation relating pressure loss in pipe flow to fluid density, velocity, pipe length, diameter, and friction factor. It expresses how flow speed and resistance produce pressure loss in ducts and passages.
Air filter : A device that removes particles or contaminants from air passing through it. The filter is the resistance across which this pressure loss is measured.
Fan power : The power a fan consumes to move air against system resistance. Higher pressure drop requires more fan work to maintain the same airflow.
Static pressure : The pressure exerted by a fluid at rest relative to a specified reference. Static pressure is measured at a point; pressure drop compares pressure between points.
Darcy's law : A relation between flow through a porous medium, its permeability, fluid viscosity, and pressure gradient. It models pressure loss when air moves through porous filter media.
HVAC : The technology of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning in buildings and vehicles. HVAC systems balance filtration needs against the fan power required to overcome pressure loss.
Airflow : The movement of air through a space, duct, or device. At fixed fan capability, added filter resistance can reduce delivered airflow.
Total pressure : The sum of a flowing fluid's static pressure and dynamic pressure. Total-pressure loss includes changes associated with flow speed as well as static pressure.
Permeability : A measure of how readily a porous material allows fluid to pass through it. Greater filter-media permeability generally reduces pressure loss at a given airflow.
Fan curve : A graph showing how a fan's airflow varies with the pressure it produces. The filter's pressure loss shifts the operating point on the fan curve.
