Primate city

A country’s largest city is a primate city when it is disproportionately larger and more influential than the country’s other cities, often dominating national economic and political life.

Rank-size rule: A statistical pattern in which a country’s city populations roughly follow an inverse relationship with their rank. It predicts a more even urban hierarchy than the sharp dominance associated with a primate city.
