Prince Shōtoku

Prince Shōtoku was an Asuka-period Japanese regent traditionally credited with promoting Buddhism, strengthening the imperial court, and issuing the Seventeen-Article Constitution.

Seventeen-Article Constitution: A set of moral and political precepts traditionally attributed to Prince Shōtoku and dated to 604. It became the clearest expression of the courtly principles later associated with him.
