Progressive historiography

An approach to United States history that interprets political change through social conflict, economic interests, and reform, often emphasizing struggles between powerful groups and ordinary people.

Frederick Jackson Turner: An American historian whose frontier thesis linked westward expansion to the development of American society and politics. His frontier thesis helped establish social and economic forces as explanations for national development.
Charles A. Beard: An American historian known for interpreting the U.S. Constitution and other political events through economic interests. His economic interpretation of the Constitution became a defining progressive argument.
