Knowra Prophecy Prophecy Prophecy is the communication of divine messages through chosen human messengers. A prophet may convey warnings, instructions, judgments, or promises attributed to a deity.
Revelation : The disclosure of knowledge or truth by a deity or other supernatural source. Prophecy is one form of revelation, delivered through a human messenger.
Prophet : A person regarded as a messenger who conveys revelations or declarations from a deity. The prophet is the human intermediary at the center of prophecy.
Moses : A biblical figure who leads the Israelites out of Egypt and receives divine law at Sinai. Moses exemplifies prophecy as both divine communication and leadership of a people.
Prediction : A statement about an event that has not yet occurred, based on inference, belief, or other grounds. A prophecy may predict events, but prediction alone does not imply divine communication.
Social criticism : Public analysis and criticism of social institutions, practices, or inequalities. Prophets can condemn exploitation and call communities to reform.
Divination : The practice of seeking hidden knowledge or predictions through signs, rituals, or other methods. Unlike divination, prophecy presents its message as received from a deity.
Oracle : A person, place, or utterance regarded as a source of divine guidance or prediction. Oracles overlap with prophecy but often deliver responses through ritual consultation.
Isaiah : An ancient Hebrew prophet whose oracles are preserved in the biblical Book of Isaiah. Isaiah’s oracles combine judgment, political counsel, and visions of restoration.
Scripture : A text regarded by a religious community as sacred or authoritative. Prophecy is a mode of divine communication; scripture is a textual form that may preserve it.
Religious reform : Efforts to change religious beliefs, institutions, or practices viewed as mistaken or corrupt. Prophetic calls to return to divine demands have inspired reform movements.
