Knowra Proportion Proportion Proportion is the relationship of dimensions within a whole or among its parts. It describes how sizes compare, rather than the absolute size of an object.
Ratio : A ratio expresses the relative sizes of two quantities by division. Proportion compares dimensions through ratios, such as a part's width relative to its height.
Classical architecture : Classical architecture draws on the building traditions of ancient Greece and Rome and their later revivals. Its orders coordinate column dimensions and building parts through established proportional systems.
Vitruvian Man : Vitruvian Man is Leonardo da Vinci's drawing of a male figure inscribed in a circle and square, based on Vitruvius's writings. The drawing connects bodily measurements with geometric forms and architectural ideas.
Symmetry : Symmetry is invariance under a transformation, such as reflection, rotation, or translation. A form can be symmetrical without its parts having any particular proportional relationship.

Balance (visual arts) : Visual balance is the distribution of visual weight among elements in an artwork or design. Balance concerns perceived weight and stability, whereas proportion concerns relative dimensions.
Similarity (geometry) : Geometric figures are similar when corresponding angles match and corresponding side lengths share a common ratio. Similar figures retain the same proportions despite differing in overall size.
Typography : Typography is the design and arrangement of type to make written language legible and expressive. Letter proportions affect readability, visual rhythm, and the character of a typeface.
