Protium

Protium is the hydrogen isotope whose nucleus contains one proton and no neutrons. It is the most abundant hydrogen isotope in nature.

Hydrogen: Hydrogen is the chemical element with atomic number 1, whose atoms have one proton in the nucleus. Protium is the ordinary isotope of hydrogen, distinguished by its neutron count.
Deuterium: Deuterium is the stable hydrogen isotope whose nucleus contains one proton and one neutron. Its extra neutron makes it heavier than protium while leaving its proton count unchanged.
Nuclear magnetic resonance: Nuclear magnetic resonance is a technique that probes nuclei through their responses to magnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation. Protium’s abundant hydrogen nuclei produce strong signals in proton NMR.
Atomic nucleus: An atomic nucleus is the dense central region of an atom, made of protons and usually neutrons. Protium’s nucleus is the simplest possible nucleus: a single proton.

Proton NMR: Proton NMR is nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy that detects hydrogen-1 nuclei in molecules. It directly measures the protium nuclei common in ordinary chemical samples.
