Psycholinguistics studies the mental processes involved in producing, understanding, and acquiring language, using behavioral and experimental evidence to explain how language is represented and processed.

Speech perception: The process of interpreting acoustic speech signals as linguistic sounds, words, and meanings. It explains how listeners recover words from a continuous, variable speech signal.
