Knowra Public image Public image Public image is the impression a person or institution forms in the minds of people who encounter it. It develops through communication, behavior, media coverage, and public interpretation.
Impression formation : The process by which people combine information to form an overall judgment of someone. Public image is the collective result of many people forming impressions from visible cues.
Brand : A set of associations and identifying features linked to a product, service, organization, or person. Brands organize associations that often become part of an institution’s or public figure’s image.
Political communication : The production and circulation of messages among political actors, media, and publics. Candidates and officeholders use political communication to shape judgments of their character and competence.
Political legitimacy : The widely recognized rightfulness of a government or political authority to exercise power. An authority’s public image can strengthen or weaken acceptance of its right to govern.
Tylenol murders : The 1982 Chicago-area poisonings of seven people who took cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules. Johnson & Johnson’s response became a defining case in crisis communication and corporate image.
Media framing : The selection and emphasis of aspects of an issue or person that shape how audiences interpret them. News and entertainment frames can make particular traits dominate public understanding.
Identity : The characteristics and affiliations through which a person or group understands and presents itself. Public image is an external impression, unlike the identity being expressed.
Celebrity culture : The social systems through which famous people are represented, consumed, and discussed. Celebrity images are built from performances, publicity, journalism, and audience response.
Trust (social science) : A willingness to accept vulnerability based on expectations about another person’s or institution’s conduct. A favorable image can support trust, while perceived inconsistency can erode it.
Volkswagen emissions scandal : The 2015 revelation that Volkswagen used software to cheat emissions tests in many diesel vehicles. The scandal sharply reversed the company’s image of engineering integrity and environmental responsibility.
