Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs

An international organization that convenes scientists and policymakers to reduce risks from science and technology, especially the dangers of nuclear weapons.

Russell–Einstein Manifesto: A 1955 statement by prominent scientists warning that nuclear war threatened humanity and urging leaders to resolve conflicts peacefully. Its call for scientists to speak against nuclear war directly inspired the first Pugwash meeting.
