Putting

Putting is the golf stroke used on or near the green to roll the ball toward and into the hole. It is distinguished by a low, controlled roll rather than an airborne shot.

Putting stroke: The motion used to strike a golf ball with a putter and send it rolling toward the hole. Its path, face angle, and impact determine the ball’s initial direction and speed.
Lag putting: A long putt played primarily to finish close to the hole rather than to make it. On long putts, controlling the next shot is often more important than holing the first.
Chip shot: A short golf shot that flies briefly before rolling toward the hole. Unlike a putt, a chip begins with an airborne phase and is often played from off the green.

Pitch shot: A golf shot played with a high trajectory and substantial flight toward the target. A pitch is used when the ball must travel over an obstacle or stop quickly.
