Pylos

Pylos was a Mycenaean palace center in southwestern Greece, known chiefly from its excavated complex at Ano Englianos and its Linear B archives. The palace was destroyed around 1200 BCE.

Mycenaean Greece: A Greek-speaking civilization that flourished on the mainland during the Late Bronze Age. Pylos was one of its major palace centers.

Ano Englianos: An archaeological site in Messenia, Greece, containing the Mycenaean palace commonly called the Palace of Nestor. The palace center stood on this ridge above the Messenian landscape.
Michael Ventris: An English architect and linguist who deciphered Linear B in 1952. His decipherment made Pylos’s administrative tablets readable as Greek.
Mycenae: A major Mycenaean citadel and palace center in the northeastern Peloponnese. It offers a comparison with another powerful Mycenaean center.
