Knowra Pyramid Texts Pyramid Texts The Pyramid Texts are the oldest known large corpus of ancient Egyptian religious writings, inscribed inside royal pyramids of the late Old Kingdom and First Intermediate Period.
Ancient Egyptian religion : The religious beliefs, rituals, and institutions of ancient Egypt. The texts draw on this religious world to describe divine powers and the king’s posthumous fate.
Utterance (Pyramid Texts) : A numbered textual unit in modern editions of the Pyramid Texts, often presenting a spell or ritual speech. Editors divide the corpus into utterances to distinguish its individual compositions.
Unas : The last ruler of Egypt’s Fifth Dynasty, whose pyramid contains the earliest known Pyramid Texts. His pyramid at Saqqara preserves the oldest surviving inscribed corpus.

Book of the Dead : A collection of ancient Egyptian funerary spells written on papyrus and buried with the dead. It continues the tradition of spells guiding and protecting the deceased beyond the tomb.
Pyramid of Pepi I : The pyramid of Sixth Dynasty king Pepi I at Saqqara, containing extensive Pyramid Texts inscriptions. Its chambers preserve a substantial version of the corpus in a later royal tomb.
