Quang Trung

Quang Trung was the regnal name of Nguyễn Huệ, the Tây Sơn ruler who became emperor of Vietnam in 1788 and reigned until 1792. He is remembered for defeating Qing forces at the Battle of Ngọc Hồi–Đống Đa.

Battle of Rạch Gầm–Xoài Mút: A 1785 battle in which Tây Sơn forces under Nguyễn Huệ destroyed a Siamese fleet in the Mekong Delta. This victory established Nguyễn Huệ’s reputation before he took the name Quang Trung.
Tây Sơn rebellion: An uprising that began in 1771 and toppled the ruling Nguyễn and Trịnh houses in Vietnam. It created the political and military movement through which Nguyễn Huệ rose.
Quang Trung’s reforms: The military, administrative, educational, and economic measures pursued by Quang Trung’s government. These policies show the state-building ambitions behind his short reign.
