Quantum Bayesianism

Quantum Bayesianism, or QBism, interprets quantum states and probabilities as an agent’s personal judgments about the outcomes of actions on the world. It treats measurement outcomes as real experiences, not as revelations of a pre-existing quantum state.

Quantum state: A mathematical object encoding probabilities for possible outcomes of quantum measurements. QBism treats this state as an agent’s personal probability assignments, not an objective property of a system.
Christopher A. Fuchs: A physicist who helped develop and advocate Quantum Bayesianism. His work recast quantum states as personal probability assignments.

Wigner’s friend: A thought experiment in which an observer measures a system while another observer treats the combined setup quantum mechanically. It tests how QBism handles distinct agents’ accounts of the same measurement event.
Quantum measurement: A physical interaction that yields an outcome described by quantum theory. In QBism, an outcome is an experience for the agent performing the measurement.
N. David Mermin: A physicist known for foundational work on quantum mechanics and advocacy of QBism. His writings brought QBism’s interpretation of measurement outcomes to a broad physics audience.
