Quebec Act

A 1774 British law that expanded Quebec’s boundaries and protected Catholic worship and French civil law. It reshaped British rule in Canada after the conquest of New France.

Intolerable Acts: A set of British laws passed in 1774 to punish Massachusetts after the Boston Tea Party. American colonists grouped the Quebec Act with these punitive measures as a threat to colonial liberties.
Province of Quebec (1763–1791): The British colony established in 1763 from former French territory in North America. The act revised this colony’s boundaries and institutions.
Conquest of New France: Britain’s military defeat of French power in Canada during the Seven Years’ War. The conquest placed a largely French-speaking Catholic population under British rule.
