R. D. Laing

R. D. Laing was a Scottish psychiatrist and writer who challenged conventional explanations of mental illness and emphasized the social context of psychosis.

Aaron Esterson: A British psychiatrist who collaborated with Laing on studies of families and schizophrenia. Their family studies supplied evidence for Laing’s account of psychosis within relationships.
Existential psychotherapy: A psychotherapeutic approach that explores meaning, freedom, responsibility, and the conditions of human existence. Laing used existential thought to interpret distress as meaningful experience rather than mere symptom.
