R. H. Tawney

Richard Henry Tawney (1880–1962) was an English economic historian, social critic, and Christian socialist who argued against economic inequality and defended democratic education.

Christian socialism: A political tradition that applies Christian ethics to economic and social life, often advocating cooperation and equality. Tawney grounded his case for social reform in Christian ethics and shared responsibility.
Equality: The principle that people have equal moral worth, rights, or access to social goods. Tawney argued that equality required more than formal rights: it required wider social opportunity.
William Temple: An English Anglican bishop and theologian who served as Archbishop of Canterbury from 1942 to 1944. Temple shared Tawney’s concern with Christian ethics and social reform.
