Racing

Racing is a competition in which participants or vehicles try to cover a course or complete a distance faster than their opponents. It includes contests on land, water, and track.

Racecourse: A defined route or area on which a race takes place. Its length, surface, and layout determine the demands of a race.
Sprint (running): A short-distance running race emphasizing maximum speed. It is a direct test of acceleration and top speed over a short course.
Time trial: A race in which competitors start separately and are ranked by elapsed time. It tests speed against the clock rather than direct side-by-side opponents.
Motorsport engineering: The design and development of vehicles and systems for competitive motor racing. Racing demands have driven advances in vehicle performance, materials, and safety.
Starting procedure: The sequence of rules and signals that begins a competition. A fair, orderly start sets the timing and position of competitors.
Marathon: A road race covering 42.195 kilometers. Its long distance makes endurance and pacing central to the contest.
Relay race: A race in which team members take turns completing segments and pass an object between them. It is a team format in which each competitor's segment contributes to one result.
Racing safety: Rules, equipment, and practices intended to reduce harm in competitive racing. High speeds and close competition make risk control a defining concern.
Finish line: A marked boundary that determines when a competitor has completed a race. Crossing it establishes the result in races decided by arrival.
Formula One: An international series of single-seat motor races governed by the FIA. It combines driver competition with engineering and team strategy.
