Radio network

A group of radio stations that distribute programs from shared sources, usually through scheduled feeds, syndication, or common ownership.

Broadcast syndication: The licensing of radio or television programs to multiple stations, often without a shared network schedule. Syndication lets stations share programs without joining a network’s coordinated schedule.
National Broadcasting Company: An American broadcasting company founded in 1926 that built one of the first major radio networks. NBC’s early network established a lasting model for linking stations to shared programs.
National Public Radio: A nonprofit U.S. media organization that produces and distributes news and cultural programming to member stations. NPR shows how a public-service network can supply programs while member stations retain local roles.
Radio syndication: The distribution of radio programs to multiple stations, commonly through licensing rather than a unified network schedule. Syndication shares individual shows, whereas a network may coordinate a broader schedule and station relationships.
Affiliate (broadcasting): A locally owned broadcaster that carries programs supplied by a national network under an affiliation agreement. Affiliates provide local reach while carrying a network’s shared programming.
Columbia Broadcasting System: An American broadcasting company founded in 1927 that became a major radio and television network. CBS developed as a major competitor in the formative era of U.S. radio networking.
American Top 40: A syndicated radio countdown show that ranks popular songs and has been hosted by several presenters. Its recurring national format demonstrates how one program can circulate across many stations.
Radio station: A facility or organization that transmits radio programming to an audience on an assigned frequency or channel. An individual station broadcasts locally; a network links multiple stations through shared programming.
Network feed: An audio or video signal distributed from a central source to multiple broadcasters for transmission. A feed is the technical path by which shared network programs reach stations.
American Telephone and Telegraph Company: A telecommunications company whose long-distance telephone lines carried early network radio programs. AT&T’s lines made simultaneous distribution from central studios technically possible.
