Radiodonta

Radiodonts are extinct stem-group arthropods known chiefly from Cambrian marine fossils. Many had paired frontal appendages, a circular mouth surrounded by plates, and lateral swimming flaps.

Arthropoda: Arthropods are invertebrates with segmented bodies, jointed appendages, and an external skeleton. Radiodonts are placed on the arthropod stem, outside the crown group of living arthropods.
Frontal appendage: A frontal appendage is a paired, specialized structure extending from the head of many radiodonts. These appendages were adapted for capturing, handling, or filtering food.

Charles Doolittle Walcott: Charles Doolittle Walcott was an American paleontologist who discovered and studied the Burgess Shale fossils. His early descriptions included radiodont parts interpreted as distinct kinds of animal.
Cambrian explosion: The Cambrian explosion is the geologically rapid diversification of animal life early in the Cambrian Period. Radiodont diversity and anatomy contribute to debates about the pace of early animal evolution.
