Rafael Carrera

Rafael Carrera was a Guatemalan military and political leader who dominated the country from 1838 until his death in 1865 and helped establish the Republic of Guatemala in 1847.

Guatemalan Civil War (1838–1851): A prolonged conflict among Central American states and factions that followed the collapse of the Federal Republic of Central America. Carrera became the leading force in Guatemala during the conflict and helped defeat liberal opponents.
