Raja Rao

Raja Rao (1908–2006) was an Indian-English novelist and short-story writer whose fiction joined Indian philosophical traditions with modern literary forms. His best-known works include Kanthapura and The Serpent and the Rope.

Kanthapura: A 1938 novel by Raja Rao depicting a South Indian village transformed by the Indian independence movement. Its village narrator and Gandhian politics make it Rao’s best-known early novel.
