Knowra Ralph Abernathy Ralph Abernathy Ralph Abernathy (1926–1990) was an American Baptist minister and civil rights leader who worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. and helped lead the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Martin Luther King Jr. : An American Baptist minister and civil rights leader who advocated nonviolent resistance and led major campaigns against racial segregation. King and Abernathy organized together from the Montgomery bus boycott through the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
Montgomery bus boycott : A 1955–1956 mass protest in Montgomery, Alabama, against racial segregation on public buses. Abernathy helped organize the boycott and served as a leading local minister during the campaign.
Southern Christian Leadership Conference : A civil rights organization founded in 1957 that coordinated nonviolent campaigns through churches and local networks. Abernathy helped found the SCLC and succeeded King as its president.

Birmingham campaign : A 1963 campaign of marches, boycotts, and civil disobedience against segregation in Birmingham, Alabama. Abernathy was arrested with King during the campaign and helped sustain its protest effort.
