Dag Hammarskjöld : Swedish diplomat who served as the second secretary-general of the United Nations from 1953 until his death in 1961. As secretary-general, he later relied on the UN peacekeeping framework Bunche helped develop.
1949 Armistice Agreements : The agreements between Israel and Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria that ended the 1948 Arab–Israeli war’s active hostilities. These four agreements were the outcome of Bunche’s mediation.
Harvard University : A private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, founded in 1636. Bunche earned his doctorate in political science there in 1934.
