Ralph Linton

Ralph Linton (1893–1953) was an American cultural anthropologist whose work linked culture, personality, and social status. His 1936 book The Study of Man helped shape cultural anthropology in the United States.

Status and Role: Status is a position in a social system; role is the behavior expected of someone occupying that position. Linton made this distinction central to explaining how social positions shape conduct.
