Rashid ad-Din Sinan

Rashid ad-Din Sinan was the 12th-century chief of the Nizari Ismailis in Syria, who led the community during conflict with Muslim rulers and Crusader states.

Nur ad-Din Zangi: A Muslim ruler who governed much of Syria and campaigned against Crusader states in the 12th century. Sinan’s Syrian community navigated the political order Nur ad-Din sought to unify.
Masyaf Castle: A mountain fortress in western Syria that became the principal stronghold of the Syrian Nizari Ismailis. Masyaf served as Sinan’s chief base and a symbol of his authority.
