Rasmus Rask

Rasmus Rask (1787–1832) was a Danish linguist and philologist whose comparative methods helped establish relationships among Indo-European languages and advance the study of Old Norse.

Comparative linguistics: The study of languages through systematic comparison to establish their historical relationships. Rask used comparison across languages to argue for historical relationships rather than rely on resemblance alone.
