Rauf Denktaş

Rauf Denktaş was a Turkish Cypriot politician and lawyer who led the Turkish Cypriot community and served as the founding president of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Fazıl Küçük: A Turkish Cypriot physician and politician who became the community’s first vice president of Cyprus. Denktaş succeeded Küçük as the leading representative of Turkish Cypriots.
Turkish Resistance Organization: A Turkish Cypriot underground organization formed in 1958 to resist enosis and protect the community’s political position. Denktaş helped organize this movement before Cyprus became independent.
