RCA Records

RCA Records is an American record label founded in 1929 and now part of Sony Music Entertainment. It grew from the recording operations of the Radio Corporation of America.

Radio Corporation of America: An American communications company founded in 1919 that developed radio technology and later owned RCA Records. RCA Records emerged from the recording business of its corporate parent.
Elvis Presley: An American singer whose recordings helped define rock and roll and popular music in the 1950s. RCA acquired Presley’s recording contract in 1955 and released his landmark early hits.
RCA Red Seal Records: RCA Victor’s classical-music imprint, associated with prestigious recordings and prominent performers. Red Seal was RCA’s specialized home for classical releases.
Columbia Records: An American record label founded in the nineteenth century and now part of Sony Music Entertainment. Columbia competed with RCA in artist signings and the postwar battle over record formats.
Victor Talking Machine Company: An American phonograph and record company founded in 1901, known for its Victrola players and Red Seal records. Victor’s recording operations became the foundation of RCA’s record business.
David Bowie: An English singer-songwriter and performer known for musical reinvention and influential albums. RCA released Bowie’s major 1970s albums, including his breakthrough in the United States.
RCA Camden: A budget record label established by RCA Victor in 1953 for lower-priced releases. Camden extended RCA’s catalog to budget-priced albums and reissues.
Decca Records: A record label founded in Britain in 1929, with a major American operation established the same year. Decca challenged RCA’s dominance in American popular music and signed many leading performers.
Okeh Records: An American record label founded in 1918, noted for early jazz, blues, and country recordings. RCA acquired Okeh and incorporated its catalog and recording activity into its label history.
Nipper: A dog depicted listening to a gramophone in the His Master’s Voice image used by record companies. The image became a prominent RCA Victor emblem and a visual shorthand for the label.
