Red Flag Canal

Red Flag Canal is an irrigation and water-transfer system in Henan, China, built in the 1960s to carry water from the Zhang River to Linzhou.

Zhang River: A river in northern China that forms part of the Hai River system. The canal diverts water from this river into the Linzhou area.
Lin County: The former county in Henan now largely administered as Linzhou. The project was organized to address chronic water shortages in this county.
Yang Gui: A Chinese Communist Party official who led Lin County during the Red Flag Canal project. He directed the local campaign that initiated and managed construction.
Irrigation in China: The use of managed water systems to supply crops across China's varied agricultural regions. The canal expanded irrigation water access in a water-scarce part of Henan.
