Reformed Christianity is a Protestant tradition shaped by the Swiss Reformation and theologians including Huldrych Zwingli and John Calvin. It emphasizes Scripture’s authority, God’s sovereignty, and covenant theology.

Calvinism: A theological tradition associated with John Calvin that emphasizes divine sovereignty and predestination. Its doctrines became a major strand of Reformed theology, though the terms are not interchangeable.
Huldrych Zwingli: A Swiss reformer who led the Reformation in Zurich and challenged Catholic worship and authority. His reforms in Zurich helped establish the Swiss roots of Reformed Christianity.
Lutheranism: A Protestant tradition rooted in Martin Luther’s reforms and teachings. Its Eucharistic theology and views of church practice diverged from influential Reformed positions.
Presbyterianism: A Protestant church tradition governed by representative assemblies of elders. It is one of the largest and most recognizable forms of Reformed church life.
Puritanism: A movement seeking further reform of the Church of England along Protestant and Reformed lines. Reformed theology informed Puritan religious ideals and their influence in England and New England.
Covenant theology: A framework that interprets biblical history through covenants between God and humanity. It organizes Reformed accounts of Scripture, salvation, and the relationship between its testaments.
John Calvin: A French Protestant theologian whose writings and ministry in Geneva shaped Reformed churches across Europe. His theology and church reforms gave the tradition lasting influence and coherence.
Anglicanism: A Christian tradition originating in the English Reformation and centered on the Church of England. Its episcopal structure and liturgical inheritance differ from many Reformed church forms.
Congregationalism: A Protestant church polity in which each local congregation governs its own affairs. Some Reformed churches adopted congregational rather than presbyterial government.
Huguenots: French Protestants, many of them Reformed, who faced periods of persecution and exile. Their history shows how Reformed communities endured conflict and spread through migration.
