Regulating Act 1773

The Regulating Act 1773 was a British law that increased parliamentary oversight of the East India Company’s Indian administration and reorganized its governing institutions.

Governor-General of Bengal: The senior Company official governing Bengal, later holding authority over British India. The Act made Warren Hastings the first holder of this new office.
Battle of Plassey: A 1757 battle in Bengal that helped the East India Company gain political power. Company influence after Plassey set the stage for parliamentary concern about its rule.
