Retail apocalypse

Retail apocalypse is a term for waves of store closures and bankruptcies among traditional retailers, especially during the 2010s. It describes a pattern with multiple causes, not a single event.

E-commerce: The buying and selling of goods or services through electronic networks, especially the internet. Online shopping redirected purchases away from many physical stores and changed expectations about convenience.
Shopping mall: A group of retail stores and services organized around shared indoor or outdoor spaces. Mall growth created a large physical retail footprint whose later decline became a defining backdrop.
