Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is surgery that changes the nose’s shape, structure, or function. It may address appearance, breathing problems, injury, or congenital differences.

Open rhinoplasty: A rhinoplasty approach that uses an incision across the columella to expose the nasal framework. Its wider exposure helps surgeons make detailed structural changes.
Functional rhinoplasty: Nasal surgery intended primarily to improve breathing by correcting structural obstruction. It focuses on airflow rather than changing appearance as the principal goal.
Nasal septum: The partition of bone and cartilage that separates the left and right nasal passages. Its position affects both the shape of the nose and the space available for airflow.
Nonsurgical rhinoplasty: Use of injectable fillers to alter nasal contours without surgery. Fillers can camouflage some contour irregularities but cannot reduce nasal size or correct internal obstruction.
Rhinoplasty recovery: The healing period after nasal surgery, including swelling, bruising, and gradual settling of the result. Early appearance changes substantially as swelling resolves over months.
Closed rhinoplasty: A rhinoplasty approach in which incisions are confined to the inside of the nose. It achieves nasal reshaping without the external columellar incision used in open surgery.
Cosmetic rhinoplasty: Rhinoplasty performed primarily to alter the nose’s appearance. It addresses aesthetic goals such as changing the bridge, tip, or overall proportions.
Nasal cartilage: Flexible connective tissue that forms much of the nose’s structure and shape. Surgeons reshape or reposition it to alter the tip and support the nasal framework.
Dermal filler: An injectable material used to add volume beneath the skin and modify facial contours. Fillers are the main tools used for temporary nonsurgical nasal reshaping.
Rhinoplasty complications: Adverse outcomes of nasal surgery, including bleeding, infection, persistent obstruction, or unsatisfactory shape. Complications can affect both breathing and the intended appearance.
