Ricardo Lagos

Ricardo Lagos is a Chilean politician who served as president of Chile from 2000 to 2006. He was a prominent figure in the Concertación coalition and Chile’s return to democracy.

Patricio Aylwin: A Chilean politician who served as president from 1990 to 1994, following the end of military rule. Aylwin led the first post-dictatorship government in the coalition that later backed Lagos.
University of Chile: A public university in Santiago, founded in 1842 and among Chile’s oldest universities. Lagos studied law there and began his academic and political career.
Chile–United States Free Trade Agreement: A bilateral trade agreement between Chile and the United States that entered into force in 2004. Lagos’s government negotiated and implemented the agreement as part of its export-oriented policy.
