Rice cultivation

Rice cultivation is the farming of rice for food in flooded or rain-fed fields. It combines crop varieties, water management, labor, and soil practices suited to local conditions.

Paddy field: A field prepared for growing rice, often enclosed by levees to retain shallow water. Flooded paddies create the controlled water conditions used in many rice systems.
Oryza sativa: The Asian domesticated rice species grown widely across the world. Most cultivated rice belongs to this species.

Direct seeding: A planting method in which seeds are sown directly in the field rather than transplanted as seedlings. It replaces labor-intensive transplanting and can be used in wet or dry fields.
Rice domestication: The evolutionary and cultural process by which wild rice populations became cultivated crops. Domestication produced the crop traits on which modern rice farming depends.
