Richard F. Heck

Richard F. Heck was an American chemist who developed the palladium-catalyzed reaction now named for him and shared the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Mizoroki–Heck reaction: A palladium-catalyzed reaction that couples an aryl or vinyl halide with an alkene to form a substituted alkene. This reaction bears Heck’s name and represents his central contribution to synthetic chemistry.
Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling: A family of reactions that use palladium catalysts to join carbon-containing fragments. Heck’s named reaction belongs to this broader class of bond-forming methods.
Olefination: A chemical transformation that forms a carbon–carbon double bond. The Heck reaction is a widely used catalytic route to substituted alkenes.
