Richard Wagner

Richard Wagner (1813–1883) was a German composer, conductor, and theatre director known for operas and music dramas that unite music, drama, and staging.

Music drama: A dramatic stage work in which music and theatrical action are conceived as an integrated whole. Wagner used this term for works designed to unite musical and dramatic expression.
The Ring of the Nibelung: A cycle of four music dramas by Wagner, based on Germanic and Norse legends. This monumental cycle is Wagner’s fullest realization of continuous music drama and leitmotif.
Leipzig: A German city with a long musical history and major institutions for music and publishing. Wagner was born and received much of his early musical education there.
Cosima Wagner: A German-born writer and cultural figure who directed the Bayreuth Festival after Wagner’s death. She preserved Wagner’s artistic legacy and shaped Bayreuth’s later performance tradition.
