Rickrolling

Rickrolling is an internet prank that disguises a link to Rick Astley’s 1987 music video “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The reveal subverts the link’s apparent destination.

URL obfuscation: The concealment or disguise of a web address to obscure its destination or meaning. A disguised URL can make a Rickroll link look like the promised page.
4chan: An anonymous English-language imageboard launched in 2003 by Christopher Poole. The earliest known Rickrolls emerged from pranks on this imageboard.
YouTube Rickroll: A 2008 April Fools’ feature that directed YouTube’s featured videos to Rick Astley’s music video. The platform turned an individual prank into a site-wide Rickroll.
Never Gonna Give You Up (music video): The 1987 promotional video for Rick Astley’s song, directed by Simon West. Repeated pranks drove enormous renewed attention to the video.
