Riksdag of the Estates

The Riksdag of the Estates was Sweden’s assembly of nobles, clergy, burghers, and peasants, which participated in legislation, taxation, and royal governance until representation shifted to a bicameral parliament in 1866.

Four Estates of Sweden: Sweden’s four political orders were the nobility, clergy, burghers, and freeholding peasants. Each estate formed a separate part of the assembly, with its own representation and interests.
