Rimfire ammunition

Rimfire ammunition is ammunition whose priming compound is distributed inside the cartridge case rim. The firing pin ignites it by striking and crushing the rim.

Rimfire cartridge: A cartridge with priming compound inside its rim, ignited when the rim is struck. Its case and primer arrangement show the defining structure of rimfire ammunition.
