Robert A. Kehoe

Robert A. Kehoe was an American physician and toxicologist who promoted tetraethyl lead as a gasoline additive and studied lead exposure at the Kettering Laboratory.

Charles Kettering: Charles Kettering was an American inventor and industrialist who helped develop the electric starter and founded General Motors Research Corporation. Kettering founded the laboratory where Kehoe built his career and supported research on tetraethyl lead.
Tetraethyl lead: Tetraethyl lead is an organolead compound once added to gasoline to reduce engine knocking. This was the fuel additive Kehoe researched and defended.
Leaded gasoline: Leaded gasoline is motor fuel containing tetraethyl lead, added to suppress engine knocking. Kehoe’s advocacy helped support the continued use of this fuel.
Lead phaseout in gasoline: The lead phaseout in gasoline was the gradual removal of lead additives from motor fuel in many countries. The policy reversal repudiated the continued use Kehoe had defended.
