Robert Broom

Robert Broom (1866–1951) was a Scottish-born South African physician and paleontologist whose fossil discoveries helped establish the antiquity and diversity of human ancestors in Africa.

Mrs. Ples: A nearly complete Australopithecus skull discovered at Sterkfontein in 1947, originally classified as Plesianthropus transvaalensis. Broom and John Robinson found this skull, a landmark specimen from his Sterkfontein excavations.
John T. Robinson: A South African paleontologist who collaborated with Robert Broom on important hominin excavations and fossil analyses. Robinson worked with Broom at Sterkfontein and helped recover the specimen known as Mrs. Ples.
Charles Darwin: An English naturalist whose theory of evolution by natural selection transformed biological science. Darwinian evolution supplied the framework for Broom’s interpretation of fossils as evidence of human ancestry.
