Robert FitzRoy

Robert FitzRoy (1805–1865) was a British naval officer, hydrographer, and meteorologist who captained HMS Beagle and founded the UK Meteorological Office.

Charles Darwin: Charles Darwin was an English naturalist whose theory of evolution by natural selection transformed biology. Darwin sailed as the Beagle’s naturalist during FitzRoy’s second command.
Meteorological Office: The United Kingdom’s national weather service, established in 1854 as a government body for collecting meteorological observations. FitzRoy founded this institution and directed its early forecasting work.
